The recent change is that such scamming schools say they are accredited to another fraduster accrediting agency with a very authoritative name. Don't be fooled by such names as they hold no value anywhere.

A website will present the name of a fancy sounding agency that accredits their program. Check out the agency because any Tom Dick or Harry cannot accredit an education institution. In the United States, there are six authorized accrediting agencies.

Just finding these names on a website does not mean that the Distance Education Program is recognized. You should check the database of the accrediting agencies to check if the institution of your choice is listed or not.
 
Accrediting is a reflecting on the quality of the education that results in the degree. When the learning program is legitimate and recognized, this helps youl in the job market and in future educational endeavors. Sometimes students need to transfer their school credits to a different school.

If the institution is not accredited, other accredited schools will not accept the credits and the individual will have to repeat the courses.
