When I look back to my school days, I had a feeling that I will be in this place, but just the opposite road. You see I never took the time to play any sports or socialize. I did not even date while in college. I just did not know how to connect with people in general and women in particular. The worst part is that I did not care either.
A friend who saw my plight quite early in life gave me a book on hypnosis when I was in 5th grade. My grand design was to hypnotize her to kiss me in front of every one and boy, was that a failure?
Although my first attempt was not that successful, I kept on trying new stuff all the time. When others were busy with dope, I was already floating on cloud nine using hypnosis and boy was that fun. When I joined college, the favorite pass time was to catch a junior and make him drink coffee out of water using hypnosis. That technique worked quite well got me a lot of friends but girls were too scared to be alone with me as they thought I will take advantage of them.
I even learned handwriting analysis to impress girls. I was so bloody good at reading the handwriting that they were shit scared to be with me coz they thought I was a mind reader. That's when it occurred to me . It is not only important to have the skills but even more important to use it in the right context and properly. With all these tools in hand, I was the weirdo of the college, at least to the cue girls I was a weirdo. I was too busy to notice because I was having a lot of fun being I could do almost anything I wanted and no one bothered to question me.
Over the course of my college I realized I did not want to fall in to the rat race of studying hard, getting good grades and getting into a good job and work even harder and get married and have great life there after.
I thought the whole idea stinketh.
So I switched from being an engineering student in a very reputed college to joining Psychology in a less reputed college. This switch gave me the time to actually enjoy what I really loved doing. I attended many NLP courses, had a brief stint at MLM which was a good eye opener and a cash drainer. Then slowly I started getting calls from people who wanted my help. I got calls from student who wanted to study better and then mothers who wanted to know how to convince their kids and even managers who did not know how to put up with their clients. I once did a session with a very successful CEO of a software company and did not even realize it because I never read News Paper!
Then I started to build this site as a hobby and now the hobby is almost ready to displace my Job. I cannot believe the amount of popularity my site has gained. check it out by googling communication-skills-4confidence.com as of now about 700+ references. My articles on active listening are being used as material in at least 4 US universities. US Military, AMA are some of the people who have referred to my site and the list goes on and on. This is not to boast about me, but merely to show how powerful communication skills can actually be if you plan to use it.
This is an exciting time. I am in the verge of creating a tool to help people overcome shyness and become confident. It will take time and lots of input. if you have a moment drop in a line .
My qualifications include a degree in Psychology, Communications and English literature. Reading books and watching movies are my favorite hobbies. Check out this famous scene from U571.
Books have been a great help to me during the difficult times. Some of the books I found very helpful are: Trance Formations by Dr. Richard Bandler. Notes from a friend by Anthony Robbins. Leadership and self deception by Arbinger Institute. Heal your life Louise Hay. The Art of War Sun Tzu. Alice in wonderland. Conversations, by Dr Bandler and Owen Fitzpatrick
The number of seminars I have attended is around grows every year and I can say that all of them influenced me in many ways. I have undergone training under Dr. Richard McHugh in NLP and Owen Fitzpatrick of Ireland in Business application of NLP. I also underwent Training in counseling and Transaction Hypno Analysis with ProfJure Biechonski MSc, and one with Bart Bagget in Handwriting analysis. Recently (Dec 05) I had the privilege of learning advanced NLP with Master Trainer Owen Fitzpatrick. The workshop was a quantum leap in the skills of persuasion and presentation skills. If any of you ever get a chance to learn under him, I have bit of advice for you..... make sure you attend. You can reach me here.
